The program is a community-based, “climate shift”
program launched in the schools. It is a primary, secondary and
tertiary prevention resiliency program for young children,
adolescents and the adults with whom they interact. By its very
design, it is universal, meaning that EVERYONE in the environment is
involved in the program. Yet, it is very simple to integrate.
The basis is six simple principles or messages which become
guidelines for the school community and the individuals to model &
operate under:
Materials Include:
Teachers Kit
- including specific lesson plans,
theory, reproducible letters and handouts, etc.
Staff Guide -
including brief Pocket Guides for most staff
positions in the school on how they in their positions can best
support and model the program for the students
Leadership Guide
-
for the headmaster/mistress and other key
leaders in the school on how to lead the program, includes hints on
leadership management, coaching professional development,
school-wide events and activities, etc.
Research and Evaluation Tools and Surveys
- includes surveys for students, teachers,
staff, leadership and community members to evaluate the program and
hints on how to collect, analyze and report the data to improve the
program and build support for the program.
Anti-bullying Guide
- includes information on how to apply
the program specifically in the arena of bullying. Includes a
bullying survey which will help identify where and when bullying
occurs, how it changes after instituting the new measures in the
Guide.
PeaceBuilders for the Cafeteria
–
The Cafeteria and school restaurant can
sometimes be loud boisterous and dangerous for students and adults
alike. This guide gives concrete methods that have been proven to
change these times to positive, fun, learning rest periods of
nutrition value for the brain and body.
Dining Guide
–
A guide to help your school involve the
community in your primary and gymnasium schools by bringing in
speakers to the classroom and meals. This guide will help your
students build peace and learn its importance by hearing from
members outside of the school environment tell their stories of
PeaceBuilding.
PeaceBuilders for the Bus/ Transportation
- through the
first several years of the program, one of the trouble spots was the
bus and school transport for disruption. In response, the
PeaceBuilders Bus Guide was developed with great success.
PeaceBuilders for PE and Playground
-
a source of many injuries and much incidental
violence is the playground and physical education. This guide helps
both the Physical Education Instructor and Play time in primary
school become much safer and peaceful, including cooperative games
and techniques.
PeaceBuilders for Camps
-
PeaceBuilders doesn’t stop when the school day
ends or the school year either. The emphasis on after-school and
summer includes camp and recreational activities . This guide
addresses other important areas , which were researched. It contains
the best and the brightest.
PeaceBuilders reproducible artwork and
graphics on CD and access to members web information
-
PeaceBuilders International maintains a
special password protected site for exchange of ideas, successes,
questions and a separate student exchange. These sections are
available for licensed sites so that cooperation and collaboration
can occur. It is not required that any site use them, but past
experience shows that most sites appreciate the availability and
even have students complete assignments using the exchange to learn
about other countries.
